So no picture yet. We don't have a designated photographer yet, so if you want to help, please let me know. Instead you get one long read about today's and yesterday's experience.
Filmmaking is hard, but in a good way. Always expect the unexpected. You will always have to think on your toes, because mishaps may happen and you will need to resolve it quickly.
Time is not on your side (big budget or no budget), unless you plan properly. Since we were shooting outdoors, light was our main concern and we had to shoot about 2 scenes, 30 shots within 4 hours. Again, mishaps may happen, you NEED to deal with them quickly so you won't fall behind schedule. Always have time management, because it can bite you in the ass. Since we went behind schedule, we now have to finish or do a certain scene on another day.
Communication is KEY. Always communicate with the crew. I think miscommunication was one of our flaws in this production. Build a good relationship on set with your crew. If you have disagreements, always try to find a resolution quickly so you will be on time. Act professionally when shooting, making a film is not a one man job. It takes a load of individual effort, when making a film.
Always have fun when filming. Although I didn't show it, the timing just got to me and it stressed me out. I shouldn't have let this happen, because it gets in the way in doing your job. I was the Director of Photography, I shouldn't have let my producer role take charge, because you may get distracted.
I know insiders of the industry would know these steps already, I have read some blogs and receive Den Lennie's (F-Stop academy) email alerts telling me the same thing. But what I've just typed and what the insiders know are all true. The video/film industry is very HARD. It challenges you, so you have think two steps ahead.
In the future, I will try not stress (not unless there is pack of 10s waiting in my pocket) and do the job that I should be doing.
Anyways, thank you guys for reading. I know it's not fun to read, but fuck it, I had to get it out.
Until tomorrow.
